  1. Mash half of the black beans in a bowl, leaving the rest whole for texture.
  2. Stir in the rice, cheddar, egg, flour, scallions, cumin, and salt until the mixture holds together when pressed.
  3. Shape the mixture into 12 small patties, using about 2 tablespoons for each one.
  4. Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat, then cook the patties for 3 minutes per side until deeply golden.
  5. Stir the yogurt and lime juice together in a small bowl and season with a pinch of salt.
