A roadside soda-fountain idea with bourbon, cherry preserves, citrus, and a tall glass of fizz.
Story
This is the drink for a neon-lit booth after a long drive, sweet-tart, cold, and fizzing like the jukebox just kicked on. Cherry preserves give it a loaded fruit hit, while lime keeps the bourbon from getting too heavy. It is smashed together in one shaker and stacked with ice. Pour it tall and let the night roll.

Ingredients
- 2 oz bourbon
- 1 oz tart cherry juice
- 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
- 1 tsp cherry preserves
- 2 dashes aromatic bitters
- 3 oz chilled club soda
- Ice
- Lime wheel and a cocktail cherry
Instructions
- Chill a tall glass and fill it three-quarters full with ice.
- Add the bourbon, cherry juice, lime juice, cherry preserves, and bitters to a shaker.
- Shake hard for 10 seconds so the preserves loosen into the liquids.
- Strain the mixture over the ice, pressing gently on the shaker strainer if needed.
- Top with club soda and stir once from the bottom with a bar spoon.
- Garnish with a lime wheel and cherry, then serve immediately.
Chef Tips
- Shake the preserves well so no sticky pockets remain in the drink.
- Use a sweeter cherry juice if you like a softer, soda-shop finish.
- Add the club soda last to keep the fizz lively.
- For a zero-proof version, use spicy ginger beer in place of bourbon and soda.
Cook's Notes
- **Ice:** Fill the glass well so the drink stays cold without tasting thin.
- **Shake:** Give the preserves a full shake before adding soda.
- **Bubbles:** Use freshly opened club soda for the best lift.
- **Garnish:** A cocktail cherry and lime wheel make the color pop.
